How long does it typically take to complete a commission painting?
Commission paintings done on canvas can take anywhere from a few days to several months/half a year. This will depend on the size of the canvas, the content, and the purpose for the piece. i.e., A condo corporation commissioning a painting for the lobby of a new building that needs to be completed in 2 weeks will be completed within that time frame.
What do you base your pricing on for commission paintings?
This will depend on the size of the piece, the content of the painting (amount of detail and time it will take), and ultimately the perceived timeline/deadline for the painting as requested by the client.
How do you typically price a mural project?
Mural projects are priced on the size of the wall, surface of the wall (Flat concrete is easier to paint on than crumbling brick, which will lower the overall cost), content of the design, access to the wall to paint (If a scissor lift is needed to paint a 20’W x 40’H wall, the access should allow the lift to be operational within the space and ultimately be safe to use. This would apply to scaffolding and ladders as well), deadline for the mural to be complete, additional costs besides my wage is the cost of materials, transportation, and if outside of Ottawa, accommodations.
