My exploration of portraiture in combination with mixed media techniques has brought me back to exploring the natural environments we all inhabit, and the relationships we perpetuate and sustain with other species, as co-inhabitants of our planet. The pandemic’s affect on our daily lives has heavily influenced my exploration into the natural world.
These paintings are an examination of a variety of natural phenomenon’s including a variety of species, fauna, and flora. My interpretation of these subjects will be realistic in technique, yet surreal in composition, showcasing the mutualism and symbiotic relationships that occur between species, highlighting the benefits when they work with one another.
This series culminated in my last body of work ‘Sky Burial’, which was exhibited at DayVan Studio in Ottawa, ON, June, 2022.

This is the third for an on going body of work about natural phenomena and symbiotic relationships in the natural world.
This painting is a surreal portrayal of the relationship between a Water Buffalo, an Ox pecker and the cattle egret. I wanted to challenge traditional landscape perspective and allow the viewer to be immersed in this ‘open air’ yet underwater space.

The honeyguide bird combines the textures of feather, beeswax, and zebrawood leaf to capture the ways a single species is entangled with other members of their ecosystem. For centuries, the Yao community in Mozambique has relied on the honeyguide to lead them to wild beehives. The honeyguide knows how to find the hives, but has difficulty harvesting the beeswax. Once the Yao have harvested the hives, the bird eats the beeswax left behind by its collaborators. The honeyguide bird is an uncommon example of interspecies collaboration that makes us consider the ways our own behavior affects co-inhabitants of our ecosystems and the planet.

Co-Founding members, Anaϊs Labrèque and Dominic Laporte, are continually striving to implement public art projects, as a tool to build a more inclusive and prosperous future.
Laporte’s passion for community-based and accessible art forms compliments his background in traditional painting. He has exhibited his work and installed mural projects for over ten years throughout Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Mexico, Romania and the United States of America.
Anaϊs Labrèque, co-founder of DRIFT Mural Co. is the bilingual (FR/ENG) project manager for large scale mural projects. She has been consulting and collaborating on mural projects behind the scenes with Dominic for close to 8 years. Having battled cancer for most of her twenties led her to want to fulfill a purposeful life connecting with people and focusing on the beauty in this world. She has a very diverse background from studying photography, to working in a travel agency, to yoga teaching, to volunteer managing, to being a sommelier focused in natural wines, to name a few. Her passion for life and new experiences led her down multiple paths, DRIFT being the culmination, bringing together her various talents to further amplify the reach of public art to the world.
This mural seeks to pay a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of Phil Hartman, capturing his journey from childhood through his illustrious career, and ultimately, his tragic passing. Through carefully curated imagery, we aim to celebrate not only Phil Hartman’s remarkable achievements but also the profound connection between his legacy and the community of Brantford.
This mural is intended to be a source of pride for the city, reflecting the deep respect and admiration its residents hold for one of their most iconic figures. Our goal was to create a mural that resonates deeply with the local community while authentically honoring Phil Hartman’s diverse contributions to the worlds of graphic design, acting, voice acting, television production, writing and comedy.

We were stoked to come back to Bellingham, Washington after winning the grand prize for the Noisy Waters Mural Festival in 2023. This mural for Industrial Credit Union was implemented alongside their rebranding mission. The mural serves as a vibrant landmark on North State St. representing transformation and change, with hints to the credit union’s location near the Salish sea and their background in the logging industry.

We are thrilled to collaborate with the non-profit organization We Howl, dedicated to ending the wolf cull in British Columbia. Commissioned to create two murals—one in Vancouver and another in Nelson—we aim to illuminate this pressing issue and celebrate the magnificence of these creatures. The first mural has been installed at the Beaumont Studios in the vibrant Mount Pleasant neighborhood. Additionally, we are honored to have been included in the lineup for the prestigious Vancouver Mural Festival.
Our goal was to bring awareness to the cause by portraying the serene beauty of these creatures on a large scale. We love to take on a project that ties in our love for nature and wildlife with a real world purpose. Thank you to our partner Sadie Parr for getting this project off the ground and working tirelessly to seek funding and gain province wide support for these mural projects.

Our murals commissioned by WeHowl in Vancouver and Nelson showcase the importance of wolves to environmental health while challenging viewers to consider the impacts of the ongoing aerial kill program conducted by the governing bodies of BC.
By showcasing a wolf pack here, the mural symbolizes the strong community bonds in the Nelson region. Wolves are known for their cooperative and social nature, reflecting the values of collaboration and togetherness that are valued in this unique and vibrant community. Through this artwork, not only do we hope to inspire appreciation and support for these magnificent creatures and raise awareness about the challenges they face in BC, but more than that, we hope to celebrate the spirit of unity and resilience that defines Nelson.

Our first trip out in eastern Canada in the city of Halifax was an incredible experience. We were invited to paint a mural on Co-Work Halifax for this years edition of the Halifax Mural Festival on Quinpool Rd. The concept revolves around a nautical theme in tribute to the culture of Nova Scotia and proximity to the Atlantic ocean. The lighthouse depicted in the mural is that of Peggy’s Cove, a famous landmark in NS. The right side/additional wall is an extension of the mural and was improvised based on the theme.

This mural serves as a tribute to the significance of water and its interconnectedness with all life forms. It stands as a testament to the invaluable freedom of accessing clean water on an international scale. The vast surface of the wall provided an ideal canvas to depict the various aspects of the theme, capturing the essence of the Monroe community in hope of instilling a sense of pride within its residents. Dom’s style truly comes through in this mural using transparency, skillful layering and vibrant colors.

Our second visit to the pacific coast of Mexico this year! This time the project was for Hacienda Escondida, a charming hotel hidden within the romantic zone of downtown Puerto Vallarta. This project was implemented on the exterior entrance wall of the Hope Legion in downtown Hope, British Columbia in August 2023. The main focus for this war memorial themed project, was to focus on elements that celebrate the service and sacrifice made by all of those who have served Canada in the past, present, and future. Many elements in the mural refer to the ‘Unknown Soldier’ using vital floral elements and bold colors.

With the new year comes new opportunities to grow.
2023 started off with a bang for us at DRIFT. We completed this 8 x 65’ mural for the Sisters of Sayulita Hostel in Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico. Being that the hostel is an all women’s accommodation, the concept behind the wall focused on Mother Nature, and the local species that inhabit the area.

Here I used a pair of great blue herons to represent both Ontario and Quebec, and each provinces connection by way of the Ottawa River. The formation and pose of each Heron forms a subtle 'heart' shape to remind us of the power of strong relationships in the community, and the importance of supporting one another.

I won the bid for the mural project in late summer of 2021 and completed the project by late September. The theme/concept behind the mural was to pay homage to the logging workers in the area and their ancestors in the industry. Along with that the community association requested a visual element to be associated with the Handfield Group Surveyors, who operate out of this building. I enjoyed developing this surreal, contemporary composition to brighten up the main strip in the small town of Masson-Angers.
Approx. 30 x 22’ - Spray Paint on Stucco - October 2022

This mural was painted in September of 2021 for a new non-profit mural facilitation organization called Quebec Nova Murale in Quebec City. They approached me to be the first artist to come and paint a design in the up and coming neighborhood of Limoilou, focusing my concepts foundation on mental health in the community, while using the Western Sky Lark as the main emphasis in the design. The mural itself was sponsored by a local distillery called Stadacone (You can find their logo within a leaf in the bottom left corner).

This new page is dedicated to multi-painting installations for which I do as an alternative to murals in residential and commercial spaces.
As opposed to a mural that cannot be moved, this installation option allows the mural to sit in the space as a unique mosaic of shapes and can be transferred to an alternative space if needed!
I was commissioned by STEPS Public Art and Bank of Montreal for two interior mural installations which I created digitally for the BMO National Mural Series.

This new page is dedicated to recent drawings, specifically focused on portraiture and character studies. All drawings have been created this year and the blue ball point series is on going. The portraits depicted in this series range from notable actors/actresses, pop culture figures, friends and regular people. I started this series to explore realism through my own drawing style, pushing my own technical standards and always striving to convey the likeness and emotional expression present in the portrait.
All drawings from this series are 6 x 9”, blue ball point pen on paper (2020).
First uninterrupted ‘series’ of drawings I did when I was 4 years old. 10 x 10”, Crayola markers on news print, 1994
